Karama Yemen

Despite the difficult situation Yemen is going through; Karama Yemen in their preparations for the 3rd edition of Karama Yemen, have completed the EU funds proposal, and are still waiting for the response from the EU. Also, they held a competition for young filmmakers, organized by GIZ, in partnership with Youth of the World Together Organization (YWT Org) and Madiba Consult. The competition jurors committee announced the selection of ten film projects from four Yemeni governorates as part of its Arabia Felix Short Film Competition at an online Award ceremony on Wednesday, August 18, 2021.

The selected film projects include a wide range of topics that promote peaceful coexistence, gender equality, acceptance, tolerance, women’s rights, democracy, and human rights.

The Ten Film Projects Selected by the Jurors:

Short Documentary:
What Brings You Here – Saber Wasel (Aden), White Wedding – Hithan Awn (Taiz), Toxic – Mohammed Abdel Al-Wadod (Sana’a), Souq Alharh – Montaser Al Kholidi (Taiz)

Short Fiction:
Hand Features – Boshra Alashuri (Sana’a), AlGabrti – Khaled Lekra (Aden), Abrar – Manal Al Shaibani (Aden) Between Two Pictures – Saleh Al-Arousi (Marib)

Short Animation:
Loula’s Feather – Nosaiba Muthanna (Sana’a), Reiteration – Yasmeen Alqaisi (Sana’a)

In the coming editions Karama Yemen will adopt a further developed format with a focus on training & capacity building programs – This is now possible as it has grown as a festival and a team, with the continuous support of the ANHAR member countries and the exchange of experience, references and film package.

Karama Yemen

Despite the harsh conditions that Yemen is experiencing, Karama Yemen Festival team is preparing their festival through a series of training workshops to make a short human rights film as an entrance to the third edition of Karama Yemen Festival on December 10 of the current year, especially after the success of the second edition of Karama Yemen Festival in December 2020.

It is worth mentioning that “Yemen Film Factory” had held a comprehensive workshop for documentaries through electronic media between 11/12/2020 and 2/2/2021, which aimed to adopt and motivate talented young filmmakers from all regions of Yemen, where 12 filmmakers were trained. The workshop provided the trainees with technical skills and resources to make 12 short documentaries on the topic of cultural heritage and diversity in order to show the aesthetic aspects of Yemen.
