Mauritania – UMAM Festival for Cinema and Human Rights
Preparations are underway for the 3rd edition of the UMAM International Festival for Cinema and Human Rights, scheduled to take place from July 2 to 6, 2025. The festival will feature a selection of feature and short films, and will include a special collaboration with Al-Usra TV Channel to organize a television report competition under the title “Children First.” The winning reports will be broadcast during the festival, aired on Al-Usra TV, and shared across the festival’s and the channel’s social media platforms. Three in-kind prizes will be awarded to the top participants.
As part of the lead-up to the festival, the UMAM Festival administration held a training workshop under the title “Rights and Culture,” led by Mohamed Edoumo, a member of the festival’s organizing committee. The workshop targeted a group of activists, students, and filmmakers in the capital city of Nouakchott and took place at the festival’s main venue. The event is part of the broader preparation efforts for the upcoming July 2025 edition.
