The White Night of Cinema and Democracy Brings Films and Public Debate to Rabat
The Mediterranean Encounters Association for Cinema and Human Rights organized a new edition of the White Night of Cinema and Democracy in July 2026 at the National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco in Rabat.
The event combined open-air film screenings with public discussions examining the meaning of democracy and the role of cinema in encouraging civic engagement and critical debate.
The film program included No Other Land by Basel Adra, The Vanishing of the Shah by Essam Eddin Marhroug, and Sudan, Remember Us by Hind Meddeb.
The accompanying discussions were held under the theme “Thinking About Democracy Today” and explored contemporary approaches to rebuilding and reimagining democratic practice, with the participation of human rights advocates, academics, cultural actors, and civil society representatives.
Held throughout the day and night, the White Night created an open public space where cinema, human rights, and democratic participation could intersect.
