To coincide with the International Day of Justice, the Lokman Slim Foundation launched the first edition of the Mizan Film Festival, dedicated to documentary and dramatic films that address political assassinations, in Beirut on July 17, 2023.
The event was organized in coordination with the Mina Center for Photography in Beirut and lasted from July 17 to 19. The Mizan Film Festival is a first of its kind, providing a unique platform for cinematic and political discussions on the issue of killing active elites in their societies, from journalists, politicians, and activists, and how to convey this bitter issue to public opinion.
The program included five films, some of which were shown for the first time in Lebanon, addressing assassinations that took place in Malta, Mexico, Algeria, Lebanon, and Greece. It also includes dialogue sessions that raise the issue of political killing from different angles and in its multiple geographical, temporal, and social frameworks, and contribute to encompassing this issue. Mizan Film Festival brings together a variety of perspectives from filmmakers, critics, researchers, and activists in public affairs.
