In collaboration with the ANHAR network, the Karama Beirut organizers are preparing for the 5th edition of the festival at the Sunflower theatre in Beirut. The festival will be under the title: Occupy the Void. The festival will take place starting the 23rd of September until the 26th of September 2021. twenty features and short films have been submitted so far: From various countries like Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Qatar, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Germany, Canada, the Czech Republic, the United States, and others.
The festival programs will also maintain intellectual forums and discussions to address the socio-political change within the sectarian Lebanese system with a deep focus on the youths’ role in this change. In addition, it will prepare for two Master Class training sessions. The writer Najib Nseir will present the first session under the title: Citizen’s Rights in Dramatic Writing, and the academic Najwa Kundakji will present the second session on Paths of Expressing the Revolution in Cinema. Both training sessions aim to encourage young filmmakers.
The Karama Beirut team hopes to throw a physical festival for this edition. And they aim to be able to invite guests like the directors and artists participating with their works. A physical festival is achieved if Lebanon’s conditions do not deteriorate so that the festival can be held face to face. However, the Karama team will also organize a digital virtual festival across its platforms.
