Announcing the 5th ANHAR Award
The fifth ANHAR Award was presented at the closing ceremony of the 12th edition of Karama Human Rights Film Festival for the best Arab human rights film of the year.
This year, films were nominated by ANHAR members in Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, Palestine, Lebanon and Jordan. All of them are films that dealt with fundamental issues affecting the human reality in our Arab societies. The nominated films are: “Feathers” directed by Omar El-Zohairy, “Amira” directed by Mohamed Diab, “Melody Morphine” directed by Hicham Amal, “The Stranger” directed by Amir Fakher El-Din, and “Trapped” directed by Manal Khaled,.
The jury is composed of the ANNHAR members had reached consensus and had voted for the award to go to the film “The Stranger” from the Occupied Golan. The young director Amir Fakher El-Din presents a promising work of art. Besides the film’s fine cinematic language, we hear the cry of a human being suffering from his lonely alienation. The film raises the questions of life, existence and belonging that hold breath and strain the soul. It is man’s attempt to search for a merciful homeland and a decent life.
